Softball assessments are required for all players league age nine (9) and up and take place in late February or the first part of March. Players’ league age eight (8) who wish to play in the Minors division are required to assess and must contact the league player agent at [email protected].
Assessments are for coach evaluation and draft process to determine the appropriate division for each player. A South Boise Little League Player Agent will contact you via email with your player’s scheduled assessment time. If a player is unable to attend assessments, they will be drafted into a division based on league age and previous division played.
Players are divided into assessment groups based on age and division of play from the previous year and are evaluated on skills and knowledge of the game. Coaches will gage players through a series of stations:
· Fielding
· Throwing
· Catching
· Batting
After assessments, head coaches and managers will attend the player’s draft, following the Little League® rules and regulations. No one other than the head coach or manager may attend the player’s draft. The player’s draft is not only a requirement of Little League® but it also allows for parity within the league to provide valuable experience for all players and teams.
Players are first drafted by league age (oldest to youngest), then by talent/capability. A player who is younger will not be drafted over a player that is older. Exceptions will require prior approval by the South Boise Little League Board of Directors and possibly the District Administrator.
Requests for team placement with friends, school mates or carpool needs will be considered but are not guaranteed. You may make such requests at the time of registration.
